The Atkins diet was created by Dr. Robert C. Atkins. He wrote and
published his first book on the subject in the early 1970s. To this
day, books on the Atkins diet continue to be bestsellers. Dr.
Atkins was the first to come up with the concept of a high protein
/ low carbohydrate diet which are incredibly popular to this day,
and growing in popularity all the time.

This diet relies on many food items such as eggs, meat, and other
high fat fats. Many high carbohydrate foods are also eliminated.
Normally, I would personally advise egg whites only to be consumed,
but eating whole eggs is an important part of the diet. Although
initially the Atkins diet basically eliminated all carbohydrate
sources, currently some non-starchy
veggies and unrefined fruits and grains are allowed. For the
most part, simple sugars or refined grains and starches are not
allowed in this diet.
Drinks:
It is important to drink at least eight glasses of water per day
throughout this diet.
EXERCISE

No specific exercise is specified, but since the Atkins diet is
based on restricting certain types of foods and not overall
calories, exercise should be performed (as energy levels should be
high enough to allow that).
ADVANTAGES
OF THE DIET

many other fad diets, the Atkins diet works! The diet is also not
particularly restrictive. Although carbohydrates are restricted,
they are no eliminated, and you can still eat plenty of fat and
protein. This is a diet which will allow you to keep your sanity
and lose some weight at the same time!
DISADVANTAGES OF THE
DIET

If you do not stay committed to the diet, the possibility of
regaining the weight you lose is present. Although the diet seems
very simple, it is a big commitment, and some may lose focus of the
diet. The diet is also high in cholesterol and saturated fats. Remember, there are good fats
and bad fats, and in any diet, your goal should always be to
maximize the good fats and minimize or eliminate the bad ones. The
diet is also low in vitamins in
minerals.

commit to this diet, then give it a try if dieting is your thing.
Unlike so many fad diets, this one has been around for quite some
time and has some proven results. It is also fairly good at
teaching people how to make smart food choices. Although it could
be better, it is head and shoulders above so many other diets
popularized today.
