In the vast sea of the protein powder market, BSN has released "an ultra-premium sustained release protein powder" formulation named Syntha-6. The majority of protein powders are a relatively simple mixture of whey protein or isolate, with the addition of artificial coloring and flavoring agents to make the product more palatable. Syntha-6 departs from this mold by including ingredients that serve to delay the process of digestion, thus in theory providing sustained levels of amino acids in the blood.

Sustained Release Blend of 6 Proteins

Six types of fast and slow digesting protein comprise the blend. The addition of calcium caseinate and micellar caseinate support the claim of sustained release, as both are slow digesting proteins, while the first ingredient, ultra-filtereed whey protein concentrate, digests more quickly. Also, the addition digestive enzymes "Aminogen" and papain is a welcome addition to the formula, as they may help alleviate stomach upset associated with protein powder consumption.

BSN lists several product highlights. Let's examine some.

"Produces "ridiculously" delicious protein drinks that maximize lean muscle development" I must admit that this protein is extremely delicious. It is easy to forget that you are chugging down a protein powder and instead believe you are savoring a refreshing and tasty smoothie. The product tastes exceptionally well when mixed in a blender with milk and banana. Please keep in mind that because of certain proteins found in Syntha-6, the product will not dissolve as easily as an instantized whey protein isolate.

"Doesn't leave you feeling bloated or stuffed: Great for several-times-daily use" The degree to which an individual may tolerate this product, or any protein powder for that matter, is dependant upon the individuals ability to digest milk derived protein powders. Personally, this product seemed easy on the stomach, but as the servings per day increased, so did the incidence of slight stomach discomfort. Syntha-6 seemed to (more so than other protein powders) keep my appetite suppressed for a substantial duration of time.

Conclusion:

Overall, I am impressed with Syntha-6. It seems as though BSN is gaining momentum in the supplement industry and because of products such as Syntha-6 and No-xplode, such a trend is no mystery. The product provides the user with a delicious way to consume necessary levels of protein, which is for some a huge chore and inconvenience. Along with the premium features it affords, so too does it come with a premium price. At nearly the same cost of a 5 lb container of "100% Whey" by Optimum Nutrition, the 2.91 lb Syntha-6 may not be within everyone's budget. According to BSN, Ronnie Coleman's favorite protein is the strawberry Syntha-6, sorry Ronnie, but I'll take the mochaccino.
