The DVD started off with Cory dancing to "Mony Mony" by Billy Idol. After a warning to make sure to stretch before every workout, Cory's workout started with legs training with the leg press exercise first. Her next exercise was leg extensions and she explained some techniques to the movements she was performing on the commentary portion of the DVD which played as the workout continued. Cory was wearing a one piece bikini and was looking dead sexy. Cory then performed lying leg curls for hamstrings. Cory also performed hack squats on the hack squat machine and continued to explain her workout. She performed step-ups with dumbbells.
Cory was shown with her then-husband Jeff Everson at what appeared to be a seminar and was explaining nutrition and training. Her husband Jeff helped with the commentary as well, explaining his take on the above mentioned topics. They talked a little about overtraining and amino acids as well. They explained meal timining and water intake and how it relates to working out. Cory said that she never knew anyone to get in contest shape without actually competing in a contest because it requires so much work and nobody would want to do that without an incentive. While I don't completely agree with this, I would say that the vast majority of people who get in contest shape (over 99% of them) do it for contests. Some do it for photoshoots and other people just like to be at their personal best all the time, although being that ripped and depleted is not really sustainable over the long run.
Cory started off her chest workout with the seated chest press machine. Jeff said that 6-8 reps will develop strength and power, while for muscular endurance, 12-20 reps is ideal. What is left is the muscle building range of motion of 8-12 reps. Cory's next exercise for chest was the incline machine press. Jeff explained that for this exercise you should exhale on the upward range of motion and inhale on the downward range of motion. Cory then performed chest abductions (pec deck). Cory's final exercise for chest was the flat machine press.
Afterwards, some more footage from the seminar with Cory and Jeff was shown and Cory talked about how there is no need to go much past your competition weight in the offseason because it just makes dieting harder.
Cory started her workout with wide grip lat pulldowns for her back. Afterwards, she performed single arm dumbbell rows. Jeff did the instructional commentary during both of these exercises. Cory next performed machine rows.
Back at the seminar, Jeff asked a question about the female birth control pill and asked whether or not it would have an effect on bodybuilding to women using it. They spoke about foods which help to keep the immune system strong. Jeff explained the importance of both aerobic and anaerobic activities.
Cory started her workout with shoulders next and began with front raises on the machine to work the medial head of her deltoid. The exercise technique was once again explained by Jeff as Cory performed the activity. Cory was once again looking dead sexy in her one piece bikini and smiling as she was working out. Talk about cute. Cory's next exercise was standing side lateral raise with dumbbells which also work the medial head of the deltoid. She then performed front raise and bent over lateral raises. Next Cory performed behind the neck presses using a barbell.
More footage from the seminar was then shown and Cory discussed the type of physiques the judges look for in contest. Jeff explained that symmetry, muscularity, and posing are all factors being judged at a bodybuilding contest. They both talked about the importance of nutrition and supplements
Cory started her arms workout off with standing barbell curls for biceps. Next she performed standing alternate dumbbell curls and seated biceps curls. For triceps, Cory performed dumbbell overhead extensions and dumbbell kickbacks. Next she performed close grip triceps presses with the barbell pullover (skull crushers).
Back to the seminar, Jeff spoke about gynecomastia and how a few of the male bodybuilders have had surgery for it. He also said that a few of the male bodybuilders have had calf surgery. Cory said that bodybuilders who use diuretics tend to show up in contest looking flat. I'm not sure if that is true or not, because diuretics are used in bodybuilding, and if they made competitors look flat, I don't think they would use them.
Cory started off with crunches and performed some more exercises for abs as Jeff did the commentary. At the seminar, Cory had explained why it is important for a woman to keep a tight midsection but that it is a bad idea have abs which are too overdeveloped and that some powerlifters have guts which are solid and muscular, just wide.
The DVD ended with the warning "You should always warm down and do some stretching movements at the end of each workout." After that, a recap of Cory's advanced weekly training program was shown, which I will post below:
Monday and Thursday
Bench Press or Incline Press
Flyes or Incline Flyes
Press with Bar
Lateral raise with dumbbells
Rear raise with dumbbells
Front and rear pulldowns
Tuesday and Friday
Standing and seated calf raises
Afterwards some contest footage of Cory was shown and once again she was dancing to "Mony Mony" by Billy Idol.
I admit, I was a bit reluctant to review any of the female titles from GMV because I am not a fan of female bodybuilding at all, but this title was well worth reviewing. Cory was definitely sexy and the DVD featured a wealth of knowledge on the topic of training and some nutrition info was covered as well. Cory competed during an era in female bodybuilding when the women looked more moderate and were not so overwhelmingly muscular. I look forward to reviewing some of the other female titles in the GMV library, although my preference is still the fitness/figure look that used to represent female bodybuilding as shown by Cory in this DVD.
