The DVD chronicled the road to the 1996 USA bodybuilding championships for Craig Titus. He was 31 at the time the DVD was released and was in his all time best shape in my opinion. Craig himself said on the getbig message boards that he would need an organ donor were he to ever get back into that kind of shape, which leads me to believe he was playing with fire with his drug stack during that time.
The first training session took place on April 30th, 1996 in Gold's gym in Vegas, eight weeks out from the 1996 USAs. Craig was training chest. After performing heavy incline dumbbell presses he moved on to to incline machine presses on the seated machine press (non Smith machine variety of incline presses). Craig finished up his chest routine and then hit some poses and was looking large and full.
Some pictures of Craig Titus were shown in various settings, and one included bodybuilding legend Mike Christian:
Next Titus was shown at home eating some flank steak and rice in his contest prep.
The next scene was filmed starting at 6:12PM on Wednesday, June 19th, 1996. Craig was nine days out from the contest at that point and was training with Gianluca Catapano. They both started off with triceps pushdowns. Craig was shown shaking hands with Victor Konovalou who was the 1996 and 1997 Wheelchair National Overall Champion, who was looking to have some good size on him. Craig's next exercise for triceps was single arm overhead triceps extensions.
What Craig said during his triceps routine was interesting: he said that he had come close to winning the USA championships in past years and that if he did not win that year, he would be done with competitive bodybuilding, but if he won he would be here to stay. It's interesting, because Craig Titus ended up winning and he was honestly there to stay - he competed until 2005 just prior to his arrest for murder and arson.
Titus then trained calves. The training session took place on Thursday morning, June 20th, eight days prior to the contest. He started off on the Cybex calf machine and his calves were looking grainy - they just lacked the separation of champions like Jay Cutler or Dorian Yates. Titus hit some legs posing and his hamstrings were looking hard and grainy. His quads were separated and huge and he looked ready for the contest stage. For quads, Craig did barbell squats with a pretty solid (low) range of motion. He then hit leg presses on the Cybex machine (not plate loaded) and used the full stack for reps. Some photos of Craig were shown next.
The next training session was on Friday, June 21st at 9:58 AM. Craig was training chest and performing incline presses. Craig hit some poses and was looking not only huge and conditioned, but most notably to me - VERY hard. He was as hard as nails and displaying great muscle maturity.
Craig trained arms next and his arms were looking awesome - not so much the size (although they were huge), but once again, the hardness of his arms made them so impressive.
John Lindsay, the NPC event promoter, made an appearance in Craig's video. Craig trained his back and did a lot of machine work for it. Ofer Samra appeared in the DVD and wished Craig the best.
The next training session was Sunday, June 23rd at 10:05AM. Craig said it was the last two days of training for him. Craig said it was full body workouts for him and he hit some poses after his workout and was looking good. He came back at 6:07 that same night for another training session. Craig's next training session after that was on Monday and was once again another full body workout as he got closer to the show. Craig's intensity was not ridiculously high, but it looked like he was training using the blood volume training principle to get as pumped as possible for his show. Some posing footage of Craig was shown and he was looking spectacular! It's no surprise that Craig did so well at that show and earned his pro card. Some more posing was shown of Craig on Thursday and he was looking good although I personally felt he looked better in the previous posing footage. The vascularity in his legs was crazy though and he was 225 pounds and looking ready for the pro ranks.
Next some footage of the show was shown, courtesy of Video Action, Inc. Craig was on the stage with Tom Prince and Edgar Fletcher and was looking awesome. At the finals, Craig posed to the Batman theme music.
