REVIEW OF DETOUR DETOUR BARS
It is my goal to review as many protein bars and related meal replacement protein products as possible so I wanted to add Detour Detour bars to the long list of supplements which I have personally reviewed. I also wanted to have this product reviewed by as many other reviewers on this site as possible and as you may have already noticed, there was a previous review written by Dave which was uploaded to the website's supplement reviews database on Friday, June 6th, 2008. I will be reviewing it today to add to the large and growing collection of supplement reviews available on BodybuildingPro.com.
I consumed this product at a relatively random time of the day and also after a back workout on Sunday, February 7th which you can read about in my training log. During that workout [before I consumed the protein bar] I performed a personal record lift of a 395 pound deficit deadlift performed on one platform. Next week I plan to break this record by lifting 405 or 410 for a single rep. My goal for 2010 is to get a one rep maximum on the traditional deadlift of 525 with a belt, straps, and chalk.
The flavour that I tried was "caramel peanut". I thought that it tasted much like a candy bar although I would say the relatively high protein content [15 grams] was noticeable. This is a great protein bar if you are focussed on taste and of course this is due to the nutrient breakdown because protein is fairly easy to notice for taste so although 15 grams of protein is relatively high compared to other bars this size, such as candy bars, it is still going to be high because all protein bars, by definition, contain a high amount of protein. I found it to be quite delicious despite the minor "healthy" taste that the bars have and I will definitely be consuming the other flavours in the near future.
I touched on the nutritional qualities of this product slightly above and I will address it more here. The product contains 180 calories per 43 gram bar. There are 85 and 90 gram bars available as well and the nutritional content of those bars has roughly the same percentages but you should check the links found on this page to view the relevant breakdowns of nutrients. The 43 gram bar also contains 15 grams of protein, 16 grams of carbohydrates, and six grams of fat. The product contains Sucralose and Neotame, so in case artificial sweeteners are something you avoid, you should be aware of these contents.
This bar digested perfectly fine and I can only speak positively about it in this category.
Overall I liked this product and it satisfied my expectations under the qualities listed above. The next consideration which people will most likely want to look at when it comes to purchasing a protein bar or other supplement product would be price. If you check out the links on this page, you will see that a single bar costs $1.99 and you can get 6-43 gram bars for $8.79. You can get 12-85 gram bars costs $19.99, and the prices for the other availabilities of this product can be viewed on the links on this page. I feel that the price is roughly middle of the road as far as protein bar products are concerned and I have seen cheaper but also seen more expensive. One should consider price as well as the other characteristics listed here and decide whether or not this product is for them. Overall, I recommend it and will be consuming it again.
