EAS Myoplex Lite Bars Review By Matt Canning

Protein bars are a welcome addition in the diets of most bodybuilders and health enthusiasts because they provide a great snack in what may full well be an otherwise bland or boring diet. I have been sampling numerous protein bars lately and I am getting a good idea of which ones are the best on the market, in terms of nutritional content, taste, and price, which are three important considerations for any supplement consumer.

Nutritional Content:

EAS Myoplex Lite bars contain 190 calories per bar with 40 of those calories from fat (4.5 grams of fat, of which 3.0 grams are saturated). It contains less than 5mg of cholesterold per bar, 260mg of sodium, 320mg of potassium, 26 grams of total carbohydrate ( 4.0 grams are fiber and 11 grams are sugars), and 15 grams of protein. Although the name is Myoplex "Lite", I cannot say that some of these nutritional aspects are particularly light. I will say that the overall number of calories per bar is pretty light in comparison to other protein bars on the market, but the other qualities are not particularly light.

A "BIG TURK" candy bar, by comparison, has three grams of fat (one gram of which is saturated), 50 grams of carbohydrates (35 grams of which are sugar), and one gram of protein. It additionally contains 0 cholesterol and 20 mg of sodium.

Here is this information in the table below, the same information I included in the Review of AllMax Nutrition WaferPro Bars, this time with a BIG TURK bar candy bar being compared to the EAS Myoplex Lite bars:

Total Fat (grams) Saturated Fat (grams) Total Carbs (grams) Fiber (grams) Sugar (grams) Protein (grams) Sodium Total Calories
4.5 3 26 4 11 15 260mg 190
16 6 25 2 15 13 140mg 300
3 1 50 0 35 1 20mg 230

As you can see, I also included the AllMax Nutrition WaferPro bars in the comparison as well.

Analyzing the charts, you can see that the EAS Myoplex Lite bars are low in fat, low in saturated fat, and low in calories in comparison to the AllMax Nutrition WaferPro bars. However, they are not particularly low in carbohydrates which is generally an important consideration of those who diet. I do not agree that such consideration to lower carbs has any scientific merit, and I would actually say that calories consumed in a 24 hour period is the most crucial aspect of dieting and I have read the scientific evidence which demonstrates that. The EAS Myoplex Lite bars are also not particularly low in sugar in comparison to the AllMax Nutrition WaferPro bars, and they are particularly high in sodium, containing almost double the sodium content as the WaferPro bars and 13 times the sodium as the BIG TURK candy bars! Since dieting bodybuilders always seek to avoid or lower carbohydrates and sodium, I'm not exactly sure what market EAS is aiming this particular product at. Health conscious people are also often told to avoid carbohydrate based products, and I would imagine that is the general consensus amongst health conscious individuals, even though I would say that is not scientifically accurate. My point is that it is still the reality of most people who seek to be healthy - they also seek to avoid carbs and sugars, and the EAS Myoplex Lite bars do not have particularly low quantities of either. In my opinion, main consideration is the overall caloric quantity of the bars, and at 190 calories per bar, I would say the Myoplex Lite bars do qualify as being "Lite" as they present themselves to be.

The EAS Myoplex Lite bars are another protein bar which I have to say definitely qualifies as being one of the best I've ever tried. It was much like a treat item, and with very little which would identify it as a protein bar. I could still get a sense for it's calorie density in a way that is very normal amongst health bars, and that is how I could identify it as being a health bar, but even then, given it's lower caloric density than other health bars, it was hard to identify as being one. Definitely a good tasting bar. Although not my favourite overall, I can say that it is in the top tier.

I had no problems at all with the digestibility of the EAS bars. I can say that it is pretty well normal for me 100% of the time to digest all supplements perfectly fine, and this one was not an exception.

Overall Review:

At this point, I have tried a number of protein and health bars, and I can say with certainty that EAS Myoplex Lite bars are definitely in my top tier based on a number of considerations. Having said that, I would prefer a higher calorie protein bar, as I am bulking up currently and not on a diet and therefore do not need to restrict my calories in any way. You can get a box of 12 bars for $23.89 which works out to a lowly $2 per bar which is a fairly low price in comparison to other health bars on the market, but could still stand to be a notch lower given the overall low calories each bar consists of. Ultimately, what I'm saying is that if you are interested in a low calorie bar, I would definitely recommend this bar for you, but if you are looking for other considerations such as low carbs and low sodium, I would not. Also, I would not recommend this bar for those who are bulking up and I would instead read the reviews for other meal replacements and make a decision from there.
