The grapefruit diet is about as simple as it sounds. It has been established that grapefruits have fat burning ability and the diet incorporates grapefruit supplementation to achieve losses in weight. Although it is not as short as some diets, it is also not incredibly long either (between seven to 21 days). The diet restricts overall caloric intake to around 1,000 a day.

Although grapefruit is a healthy fruit and many believe it has miraculous fat burning properties, none of these claims have been proven scientifically. You will lose weight on this diet, but it has less to do with any magic in the grapefruit and everything to do with the severe restriction of overall calories. As a result, this diet is not recommended for anyone seeking long term weight loss. However, for the short term, it works well if you do not mind the low energy levels you will experience during the length of the diet.
