REVIEW OF MUSCLETECH NITRO-TECH PROTEIN

MuscleTech Nitro-Tech

MuscleTech Nitro-Tech was the very first protein powder that I ever used. I started bodybuilding at the age of 18 and was initially attracted to MuscleTech due to the high volume of advertisements. At the time, the ads featured Greg Kovacs and would talk about how he gained 23 pounds of lean mass using the Cell-Tech and Nitro-Tech stack. Of course, at the time I knew a lot less about bodybuilding and supplements than I do now, and I bought in to the hype! I bought both supplements and used them each as directed. But not for nothing, since the supplements did work! Granted, they could never take someone at Greg Kovac's level and help them to gain 23 pounds of lean muscle tissue, but that is not to say they are ineffective supplements either.

What's In It?

Please Note: Nutritional content and ingredients may vary slightly between Nitro-Tech flavors.

Directions: Add 1 to 2 scoops of NITRO-TECH to 4 to 8 oz. of cold water or skim milk and mix in a shaker and stir. Cosume 1 to 3 servings of NITRO-TECH daily (depending on your protein needs). NITRO-TECH should be consumed immediately after your workout. For maximum results, consume 3 servings of NITRO-TECH and 1 serving of CELL-TECH daily. NITRO-TECH should be consumed every day for a minimum of 6 weeks as results improve with consistent use.

Each serving of MuscleTech Nitro-Tech contains 110 calories with 20 grams of protein. That is not bad, although not the best either, but still basically what I would expect from a protein. It is perfect to take 1-2 scoops and mix it with a tall glass of milk or in a shaker bottle.

Taste:

The only flavour of Nitro-Tech which I ever tried was vanilla, and to be honest, I am not really a fan of vanilla at all when it comes to protein powders. I would rather have a chocolate flavour of a fruit flavour so that I could mix the shake in a blender with yogurt, fruit juice, and some fruit. vanilla was recommended to me by a friend and it is ok mixed with milk, but I am just not a fan of vanilla. If you like vanilla, you would probably like it though. Since it is the only flavour available for Nitro-Tech, I guess you can take it or leave it, but personally I would prefer a chocolate flavour! Of course, like anything in life, to each their own, and no doubt some people will enjoy or even prefer a vanilla flavoured protein powder over any other taste. =)

Mixability/Texture:

At the time I drank my Nitro-Tech shakes, I would follow the directions and make my shakes with milk. I would usually eat a piece of fruit with each shake to make for a small but complete bodybuilding meal. At the time, I don't remember any problems at all with mixing. As with any protein powder, you have to expect the occasional clump, but otherwise, there was nothing particularly bad about Nitro-Tech in terms of mixability. The texture was fine and again, was on par with any other protein powder I ever tried.

Effectiveness

At the time I used the Muscle-Tech stack of Nitro-Tech and Cell-Tech, I gained a total of 23 pounds while keeping generally the same condition. Check out the link below to see some of my progress pictures showing what I looked like when I began bodybuilding at age 18, and another picture four years later at age 22:

http://www.bodybuildingpro.com/feb11-2005.html

But you should note what I mentioned above which is that I had just begun bodybuilding and so a lot of those gains would have just been from the initial changes in my diet and my body adjusting to a new training program which I had never done before. I had not spent much time at all lifting weights in my life, and I had not consumed many calories at all before, so I'm not surprised my weight shot up at the beginning. My gains leveled off later and looking back I kind of think I fell into the MuscleTech marketing trap: they made promises of 23 pounds of lean muscle mass and I did in fact gain 23 pounds! It just so happens that obviously not all of that was muscle and also, no doubt at least some of those gains would have occurred with or without any supplements. The truth is, I bought all of the marketing hype and campaigns from the ads that I read and I bought the supplements believing what I had read, being naive to the effects of steroids and their role in pro bodybuilding. When I gained those 23 pounds, my expectations had been fulfilled and I had a definite interest in using more MuscleTech supplements which I did for some time after that! But talk about great marketing...I'm pretty sure that MuscleTech knew that beginners would try their products and experience great gains due to their initial efforts and attribute it to MuscleTech supplements and buy more just as I did! Marketing brilliance. =)

Overall Review:

MuscleTech products are no doubt effective and so is Nitro-Tech. It has basically exactly what I'm looking for in a protein powder. I do wish there were more flavours around because I have a penchant for chocolate or a fruit flavour, but as it is, the main thing I look for in a protein powder is the nutritional content, and Nitro-Tech delivers. I will say that with so much money spent on marketing, Nitro-Tech is more costly than other protein powders at a cost of $52.89 for four pounds. Personally, I like to give every protein powder a try, but if I was on a budget, I would opt for another brand name. A good product nevertheless, and just as Muscle-Tech suggests, it is a good supplement to stack with Cell-Tech, MuscleTech's popular creatine product.
