Water is an important, life preserving substance for everyone, but has specific and very important application in athletics. Athlete's require water to cool their bodies and lubricate their joints, especially when under added stress that sports will place on the body. To stay hydrated, be sure to drink plain, cool water regularly. Drink water both prior to and after your physical activity, and certainly during it. Drink 16 ounces of fluid for every pound you lose during physical activity.
